Lycian Way: History and Routes
The Lycian Way is one of the longest and most impressive hiking routes in Turkey. Starting from Fethiye and extending to Antalya, this route offers a 540-kilometer adventure adorned with both historical and natural beauties. The road, which follows the traces of the ancient Lycian civilization, is a world-renowned trekking route and is a center of attraction especially for nature and history enthusiasts.

The History of the Lycian Way
The Lycian Way takes its name from the ancient Lycian civilization that lived in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. With its history dating back to the 15th century BC, Lycia is one of the most impressive civilizations of its time. Lycia, meaning “Land of Lights,” is known for its unique alphabet, democratic structures, and unique architecture such as rock tombs. Many historical artifacts such as ancient theaters, temples, city ruins, and rock tombs can be encountered along the Lycian Way.

The road was formed by combining old trade routes, paths, and roads from the Roman period. It was introduced as an international trekking route in 1999 by the work of a British researcher named Kate Clow and today welcomes nature lovers from all over the world.
